Who should take Food Hygiene and Safety Level 2?

If you are working within the catering industry or handle food regularly for work, a level 2 is for you. These professions can include but are not limited to: restaurants, bars, fast food outlets, preparing meals in schools, hospitals or any other public service environments.

A level 2 catering food hygiene certificate is ideal for those that may be just starting out in their catering career, whether that is as a team member, kitchen porter or any other junior role within the business. This course ensures you have a strong base knowledge of all food safety and hygiene legislation and regulations that you need to follow in order to provide a safe and quality service.


Our Food Safety and Hygiene Level 2 course is Assured by RoSPA, allowing us to provide the most up to date and industry recognised course.

On successful completion of the course assessment, the candidate will be able to print/save their certificate. In addition to this, an email is sent to the candidate containing a link to the certificate.

How long does a Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate last?
A Food Hygiene Certificate does not have an expiry date, however we advise you to refresh your knowledge every 3 years. This ensures you keep up to date with the latest food safety and hygiene legislation.

Those working in the NHS may be required to refresh their Food Hygiene certificate every 12 months.

The online assessment for the course consists of 30 multiple choice questions. In order to be successful, candidates must achieve a 75% pass mark. The assessment is timed and candidates are given 45 minutes to complete the assessment.

The average time required to complete the learning is approximately 2 - 3 hours. However the course is designed to go at the pace of the learner and can be completed in more time if needed.

If you don’t pass the assessment first time there is no need to worry. We offer you Unlimited Resists to make sure that you pass and get your level 2 food hygiene and safety for catering certificate, stress free.

When taking part in our online course, you will cover the following modules:

  • The Importance of Personal Hygiene Good personal hygiene is critical in catering – and we focus on how important it is to maintain such high standards in order to work safely when handling and storing food in the workplace.
  • How to Keep the Working Area Clean and Hygienic Covering the importance of maintaining a hygienic work environment, this section of the course looks at cleaning safely and effectively when handling and working with food.
  • How to Receive and Store Food Safely Focusing on the knowledge you’ll need to work safely with foods – both raw and uncooked – during the course, you’ll look at every stage of the food preparation process.
  • Preparing, Cooking and Handling Food Safely It’s vital that food safety comes top of your list when you work in catering; this section of the course will look at the importance of working safely with ingredients during food prep, cooking and handling.
